The print
The print started with the interest in a still horizon amongst an uncertain journey. The work is created using a water development process call cyanotype.
A mixture of screen printing and gold leaf was then applied to the surface to bring together a horizon line.
The edition size was based on William Shakespeare’s poem ‘ Full fathom five thy father lies’ and equates to 30 feet.
from The Tempest)
Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell:
Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them,—ding-dong, bell.
